One Point of Contact, Nationwide Reach

Italy offers incredible visual diversity, but managing a shoot across multiple regions can be logistically fragmented. Courage Production solves this by acting as your single, centralized executive partner. Whether you are shooting a winter campaign in the Dolomites or a summer editorial in Sicily, our Milan HQ manages the entire chain.

We deploy key Heads of Department (HODs) and specialized rental equipment from Milan, the heart of the Italian commercial film industry. From there, we activate our trusted network of local support across our primary production corridors. This hybrid model ensures you get a consistent, high-end execution standard, English-speaking proficiency, and tight budget control, whether you are shooting with our Venice production company unit, in Rome, or on Lake Como.

While our Key Crew (HODs) travels from Milan to guarantee quality consistency, we heavily rely on our network of local production support (Location Managers, PA, Runners) in every region. This hybrid approach optimizes your budget by reducing travel and accommodation costs for non-essential crew.

  • Location scouting: extensive archive decks and fresh scouts for private villas, historic towns, beaches, and natural landscapes. See our Milan location scouting guide.

  • Permitting: management of public land occupation (O.S.P.), drone clearance, and heritage site image rights.

  • Logistics: fleet management (Sprinter vans, camera cars, boats) and travel coordination.

  • VIP management: high-end coordination, security, and discreet logistics for global talent and celebrity campaigns.

Strategic Production Hubs

While our main headquarters and studio facilities are in Milan, providing immediate support for high-end fashion photo production and commercial shoots, we operate highly active corridors in key territories. Milan and Rome serve as our primary logistical bases for top tier crews and equipment rental. From these central points, we can easily deploy teams to the Alps, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast & Naples, Sicily, Puglia, Venice, Lake Como or Liguria (Genova, Portofino), ensuring the same executive standard nationwide.

Why international productions choose Italy

Italy is one of the most-requested shooting destinations globally for fashion, luxury, and lifestyle campaigns. The country concentrates an unusual density of visual assets within short travel distances: baroque historic centers, private villa estates, dramatic coastlines, snow-capped mountains, and 300 days of reliable Mediterranean light in the south.

For international productions, the logistical reality is less straightforward. Cinema-grade equipment must travel from Milan or Rome to reach most regions. Permits are handled Comune by Comune, each with its own lead times and regulations. Local crew quality varies significantly between regions.

Courage Production solves this by acting as the single executive partner across the entire country, applying Milan HQ standards regardless of where the shoot takes place.

Production FAQ: Italy

Where does Courage Production operate in Italy?

From our HQ, we operate nationwide across all main shooting regions: Lake Como, the Italian Alps, Liguria, Venice, Tuscany, Rome, Puglia, the Amalfi Coast and Naples, and Sicily. Equipment and key crew travel from Milan and Rome (the two main industry hubs) to all other regions via road transport.

Is winter a good season to shoot in Italy?

Yes, especially in Southern Italy. Sicily has arguably the best winter weather in continental Europe for commercial shoots, with daytime temperatures typically between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius from November through March, stable Mediterranean light, and significantly fewer crowds at major locations. We regularly schedule Spring/Summer fashion campaigns in Southern Italy during winter months, when permit lead times are also faster.

How long does it take to get a film permit from the Comune in Italy?

Two weeks is the standard lead time across most Italian Comuni for public ground occupation permits (O.S.P.) for commercial film and photo shoots. Smaller Comuni and rural municipalities often process permits faster (5 to 10 working days). The two main exceptions are Rome and Florence, where lead times extend to 20 to 30 days due to higher volume and stricter coordination across multiple offices. Heritage sites, archaeological zones, and protected areas (UNESCO sites, national parks) require longer lead times and additional clearance from the relevant Soprintendenza.

What crew and equipment is available in Italy?

Milan is Italy's primary hub for high-end commercial and fashion production crew (DoPs, Digitechs, Gaffers, Stylists) and equipment rental (Arri, Profoto, Phase One, Sony Venice). Rome is the primary hub for cinema and film production. Outside these two cities, high end crew and equipment must be sourced from Milan or Rome and transported to location. Local assistants (electricians, second light assistants, extras etc) can sometimes be found locally.

What is the difference between a production company and a production service company in Italy?

A production company starts and owns the creative project (commercial, tvc, branded content). A production service company manages the on-the-ground logistics for a client's project: permits, scouting, crew, equipment, and transport. Courage Production operates as a production service company for international brands, agencies, and production companies shooting campaigns in Italy.

Does Courage Production work directly with brands or only with agencies?

We work with international brands that produce their own shoots in Italy, providing them with local support, creative agencies managing their clients' campaigns, and production companies headquartered abroad that need an Italian executive partner on the ground for their shoots. The brief and workflow adapt to the client's structure.
